East Coast Railway emerged champions in the Jayanta Memorial One-day Women Football Tournament, beating defending champions Urmila Football Academy by 3-2 goals in the final via tie-breaker at Uint-6 High School Ground here today. Tie-break rule came into force after play in the regulation time ended in goalless drew.
The champion team received a cash prize of Rs 4,000 and the runners-up were given Rs 3,000. Bhubaneswar Sports Hostel and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) finished third and fourth respectively.
Altogether four teams participated in the tournament. Earlier in the semifinals, East Coast Railway blanked KISS 4-0, while Urmila Football Academy got the better of Sports Hostel 3-2 in penalty shoot out.
Koili Hembram of KISS was adjudged rising player of the tournament. Manisha Kumari, Suprabha Kumari (both East Coast Railway); Rajeswari Das, Pyari Xaxa (both Urmila Academy) and Premanjali Marandi (Sports Hostel) got best defender, best mid-fielder, player of the tournament, best forward and best goalkeeper award respectively.
Anugul-Sukinda Railway Project MD, Dilip Samantary gave away the prizes in presence of Tata Sponge Iron Executive Director Sanjay Kumar Patnaik, host Unit-VI Athletic Association president Tapan Mohanty and secretary Dilip Das.
